The Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle has been shot to death in Los Angeles in front of his clothing store, multiple reports say.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that the 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, was one of three people shot Sunday outside his clothing company, called the Marathon Store, in South Los Angeles. TMZ was the first to report the shooting.
Los Angeles Police Officer Mike Lopez says three people were shot and one has died. He said one person fled in a vehicle after the shooting. The police officers are in search of a black male in his 20’s and a female get away driver. The suspect was on foot. Sources say the shooting is “gang related”.
Shortly before the shooting, the rapper tweeted, “Having strong enemies is a blessing.”
Hussle’s debut studio album, “Victory Lap” was nominated for best rap album at this year’s Grammy Awards in February. Since his rap career took off in 2008, he has also served as a community organizer, activist, and entrepreneur in Los Angeles. Hussle is survived by two children, one with model and actress Lauren London.
