8th Annual Mo-Town Smokers Cookoff held

Innovative accordion player, Albert Zamora, plays to a crowd at the 8th Annual Mo-Town Smokers Cookoff at 202 Fortune Drive, Saturday, April 6, 2019.

On April 6, 2019, the Molina neighborhood in Corpus Christi’s westside had a special event known for their BBQ. The Mo-Town Smokers, a non-profit organization aimed at helping the community with events mixed with Conjunto bands and delicious barbeque kicked off their event at 202 Fortune Drive Saturday afternoon. There were more than 30 barbeque competitors making ribs, thighs, and sausage.

Special bands such as the innovative accordion player, Albert Zamora, played music along with 30 different barbecue competitors. Other music groups consisted of Chicas Rock, Amistad, Pecado, Cojunto Reyes and Hard Candy. Non profit executive director, Julian Lopez, says “the event was organized all in good fun and to help anyone in need from the neighborhood of Molina”.
